Art Deco German Indigo Blue and White Enamelled .935 Gilt Silver Compact Purse with Inlaid Clock and “Jewelled” Clasp, circa 1920
v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vA wonderful indigo blue and white enamelled German .935 gilt silver compact purse with an inlaid clock, red jewelled clasp (possibly garnet or spinel), and double initialled attached chain, stamped “G.E.G.”, circa 1920.
The purse is stamped “.935” with the maker’s mark and the numbers “210” on the inside of one of the compartments. The purse opens and reveal a gilt silver interior with secure compartments for coins and a writing surface in French ivory. The clock on the exterior (not currently working) has two removable possible grease pencils (wax tools for writing) used for writing on the ivory pad. The colour changes from blue to purple depending on the angle you look at from. The quality of the enamel and silver are quite elegant and fine.
The silver is stamped .935 with makers marks on both sides of the purse. It is stamped again with the “210” on the interior of the other compartment.
The chain is 15 inches in length and is removable if desired.
