Beautiful Quality Covered Silver plated Tureen by Barker Ellis, England – circa 1920
Silver HollowareAn impressive and exceptionally substantial English covered tureen by Barker Ellis, constructed in heavy copper with a silver-plated finish. The shaped body is richly decorated in the Rococo Revival style with elaborate floral engraving, scrolling foliage, repoussé ornament and deeply modelled borders.
The removable domed cover is fitted with an ornate pierced handle framed by bold floral and acanthus decoration. Raised on four substantial paw feet, the tureen has a strong sculptural presence and an unusually heavy, solid feel.
Dating to the early 20th century, this striking piece reflects Ellis Barker’s finely made decorative tableware inspired by earlier Georgian and Victorian silver forms.
