British Watercolour “Landscape Pastoral Scene” by Frederick James Knowles (1874-1931)

Frederick James Knowles was born in Manchester on 4th August 1874 to a celebrated artistic family, the brother of painters George & Juliet Sheridan Knowles.  He studied at the Cavendish School of Art and worked and exhibited prolifically in the North of England. Lived in Moss Side and later in Oswestry, Shropshire. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Walker Art Gallery, the Manchester City Art Gallery, the Royal Institute of Painters in watercolours and the Royal Cambrian Academy. He was a member of The North British Academy.

This watercolour of a “pastoral ” scene of cows grazing by a stream, shows his masterful skill in terms of creating an atmospheric landscape with great depth and a beautifully detailed colour palette. A wonderful landscape artist, well documented and collected.
