An elegant early 19th-century French mantel clock surmounted by a finely cast patinated bronze figure of Mercury. The clock features an enamel dial with Roman numerals and retains its rare pin-wheel escapement with silk suspension, characteristic of high-quality early French Empire movements.
The sculpture and dial are mounted on a warm-toned yellow marble base enriched with finely chased gilt-bronze mounts and scrolling feet. A refined and highly decorative Empire-period timepiece, notable for both its sculptural quality and its superior movement.
