English STERLING SIVER & ENAMEL COMPACT Navy Fleet Air Arms Regimental CREST, c. 1955
v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vThis is a beautiful, round, sterling and enamel compact featuring a deep cobalt blue enamel on silver top, and a machined sterling silver back. The centre of the enamel is surmounted with a sterling military crest consisting of a fouled anchor in a wreath of laurel, framed by albatross wings and surmounted by a crown. This is the regimental crest of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arms.
The interior is fitted with a round, inset mirror in a sterling frame inside the lid, and a removable silk mesh powder screen finished with a cream-coloured velvet band.
The case opens and shuts with a pressure clasp which works perfectly.
This would be a wonderful and unusual gift for a female member of the FAA, or for someone who collects FAA memorabilia. It would also make a gorgeous addition to a collection of compacts!
Marked: Assayed beneath the interior powder screen, on the inside bottom of the case, for sterling, Birmingham, 1955. Raised letters, “JWB” in impressed diamonds; the maker’s mark for John William Barrett, a manufacturing jeweller in Birmingham (pictured).
Measures: Dimensions: 3″ in diameter.
