FurnitureA rare late eighteenth-century George III mahogany book carrier dating to the Sheraton period. The upper section features an elegant hooped carrying handle above an open tiered book compartment with a finely shaped gallery, originally designed for use on a library or writing table.
The lower section is fitted with two short drawers over one long drawer, each decorated with satinwood stringing and crossbanded borders. Original brass shield-shaped escutcheons and a beautifully mellowed honey-brown patina complete the period appearance.
An attractive and highly decorative example of Georgian cabinetmaking, ideal for a library, study, office, or refined interior.
