Exquisite & Monumental Italian Art Deco Figural Marble, Alabaster & Onyx Lamp, Sculptural Seated Female Figure with Alabaster Globe, Signed C. Rossi, 1925–1940

This striking and sculptural Italian figural table lamp features a finely carved seated female figure executed in a combination of marble, alabaster, onyx, and quartz. The elegant figure rests thoughtfully with her head supported by one hand, creating a graceful and contemplative pose that reflects the stylized elegance associated with early 20th-century decorative sculpture.

The figure is exquisitely carved in pale stone with delicate facial features and finely detailed hands and feet. She is dressed in a flowing robe carved from richly colored stone, decorated with subtle engraved floral ornamentation. The contrasting materials — warm orange-toned stone for the garment and lighter stone for the figure — create visual depth and highlight the sculptor’s craftsmanship.

Above the figure rises a carved stone support terminating in a large luminous alabaster globe shade. When illuminated, the shade produces a warm, diffused glow typical of carved alabaster lighting from the Art Deco period.

The lamp stands on a multi-tiered circular base of polished marble and onyx, providing stability and additional decorative contrast. These mixed stone materials were frequently used in Italian decorative arts during the 1920s–1940s when sculptural lighting became popular in luxury interiors.

The piece is signed “C. Rossi,” attributed to an Italian sculptor working in the early 20th century who produced decorative stone sculptures and lamps in the Art Deco and late Art Nouveau tradition. Italian workshops during this period were known for their mastery of carved alabaster and marble lighting pieces, often produced in regions such as Volterra and Florence where stone carving traditions were centuries old.
