A beautifully inlaid French bonheur du jour (lady’s writing desk) in black lacquer with brass inlay and panels of brass, ivory and mother of pearl inlay. The panels feature gardens, with drapes, birds, snakes and squirrels. The drawer opens and reveals a writing table with a blue velvet and the table slides back to reveal storage. The double doors open and show an interior with a shelf. The interiors of the cabinet and drawer are made in Birds Eye Maple. A lovely contrast to the black lacquer. The piece is further highlighted with bronze trim and mounts.
Dates France, circa 1860.
