French 19th Century Heavy Black Slate & Marble Clock – Samuel Marti & Cie. c. 1860

Here is a handsome 19th century black slate and mottled marble mantlepiece clock with a porcelain face & brass pendulum and fittings, made by Samuel Marti & Cie., c. 1860.

There is bevelled glass on the front of the clock’s body so the pendulum is visible when it is attached.  The face has a skeletal works that show movement as the pendulum swings.  The front beveled glass face opens to wind and adjust the time.  The back also opens with two doors – to show the works and install the pendulum.

Chimes on the hour and the half-hour.

The clock measures 19 inches tall x  11 inches wide x 6 1/2 inches deep.  The brass pendulum is 12 inches long.

Marked on the works for Samuel Marti & Co – a well established French clockmaker in the mid 19th Century to early 20th Century.  The mark of the award “Medaille du Bronze” dates the clock mid 19th century.
