French Impressionistic Oil Painting By Pierre Jacques Pelletier (1869-1931), ” French Village Port Scene” Signed by the Artist
ArtPierre Jacques Pelletier was born 12th November 1869 at Clermont- Ferrand France and died on the 4th October 1931 in Paris. He was an Impressionistic painter of landscapes and coastal scenes, some with figures. He studied under Charles Beauverie in Paris. In 1902 he became a member of the highly prestigious ‘Salon des Artistes Francais’ where he received an honourable mention in 1907. He also exhibited at the ‘Salon des Independants’.
The subject is a village scene with gorgeous contrasting views of the ” quaint village buildings” against “boats on the water in port and the open sunny sky”. A couple walks on a path leading to the port. The original gilt wood frame suits the time period of the work and has a frame “mounted picture light”. Signed by the artist on the front lower left and artist name plate on the frame center front. “Made in France” stamped on the back along with a tag “n.5 Montreal”
