GeneralA French Sèvres-style mantel clock, from the 19th century, features a dark, rich blue or “blue de roi” porcelain, decorated with intricate gilt bronze mounts, and hand-painted porcelain scenes, in a Louis style, particularly the Louis XVI period. The overall form includes a rich cobalt blue vase-shaped surmount, scrolled handles, a circular 8 day cycle clock and porcelain dial with Roman numerals and a small painted scene. The elaborate ormolu case with fluted block feet has a hand painted porcelain scene depicting a river/forest setting and animal motifs.
The combination of Sevres style hand painted porcelain and ormolu/gilded bronze artistry with clockwork creates a highly decorative ornate sculptural piece.
