ArtGerman landscape oil painting of ” Cattle By The water” on wood panel signed on the lower front right by the artist “Geist” with the initial “S. or C.” Geist was believed to be working at the time and in the style of the “Munich School” 1850-1918. In the second half of the 19th century, the Academy became one of the most important institutions in Europe for training artists and attracted students from across Europe and the United States. The Munich school is characterized by a naturalistic style and chiaroscuro.
