Gigantic Georgian Early Mason Impressed Patent Ironstone Serving Platter in “Oriental Pheasant” Pattern, Circa 1820
China Patterns, PorcelainsA handsome early Mason’s Ironstone platter in the celebrated “Oriental Pheasant” pattern, dating to circa 1820. This richly decorated design was one of Mason’s most popular early chinoiserie motifs, featuring long-tailed pheasants perched among flowering branches, stylized rockwork, and scrolling foliage.
The colours remain vibrant — deep cobalt blue, iron red, soft greens and peaches — all printed and hand-enamelled over a creamy ironstone body with the weight and presence characteristic of Mason’s early period. The shaped octagonal form is framed with a broad floral border and an interior reserve alive with movement and detail.
A fine example from the golden age of English ironstone, suitable for display or service.
