GeneralGorgeous & large, this iconic Tiffany Studios patinated bronze large inkwell features symbols of several of the 12 zodiac signs, executed in enamel that is fused onto the bronze base. The inkwell has a hexagonal form with each side showcasing a different zodiac symbol in an “artistic” design which includes intricate borders referencing Celtic art patterning. Libra is particularly noted, being embossed on the hinged lid.
Louis Comfort Tiffany embraced the Arts and Crafts movement’s emphasis on handmade goods and the integration of art into daily life. He championed the importance of craftsmanship and the beauty of natural materials in his designs. Signed to the underside “Tiffany Studios New York 1072” and in excellent original condition, with beautiful patina from age.
