Pair of Burled Wood Framed Paintings on Ivory of Women in Interior Scenes, mid 19th Century
ArtPair of Burled Wood Framed Paintings on Ivory of Women in Interior Scenes, mid 19th Century
A lovely pair of miniature paintings on ivory with burled wooden frames, circa mid 19th century.
The first painting is of two ladies sitting on a settee in an interior scene, with one lady whispering into the ear of the other.
The second painting shows three women seated together, admiring something in the first lady’s hand. This is also painted in an interior scene. Each painting is painted in complementary colours using red and blue draped fabrics to tie the two paintings together. There is great depth of detail in both the foreground and background of each painting.
Both paintings are framed identically with a black exterior and natural burled wood with linear highlights, accented with a pale gold interior wood frame under glass. Both frames have a wood backing covered in paper and there is a round metal hook for hanging the frame on each one.
Each frame measures 7 1/4 inches high X 6 1/4 inches wide and the paintings are each 3 3/4 inches high X 2 7/8 inches wide.
Both are in very good condition.
