Josef Lorenzl Art Deco Silvered Dancer Figure on Onyx Base, circa 1925–1930

A stylish Austrian Art Deco figural sculpture by Josef Lorenzl, depicting an elegant female dancer captured in a lively, theatrical pose.

The slender figure is modelled with one leg raised and both arms extended, dressed in a short tiered skirt and fitted top characteristic of the fashionable cabaret and dance imagery of the 1920s. Her softly stylized features, elongated proportions and sense of movement are typical of Lorenzl’s celebrated Art Deco figures.

The figure retains an attractive silvered finish, now showing areas of age-related wear and patination that add considerable character. It is mounted on a substantial green onyx pedestal base, providing a handsome contrast to the silvered metal figure.

Josef Lorenzl was one of the best-known Austrian sculptors of the Art Deco period, particularly admired for his graceful dancers and fashionable female figures inspired by the stage, cabaret and modern dance.
