This English Royal Doulton porcelain large Toby Jug is entitled “Beefeater” and was designed by Harry Fenton. It is numbered D6206, has a copyright date of 1946 and was discontinued in 1953. Yeomen of the Guard nicknamed “Beefeaters” guarded the Tower of London and got the nickname from King George VI for the amount of beef they ate. This Toby Jug bears the cypher E.R. (Elizabeth Regina) on the base of the handle for Queen Elizabeth II, after the death on King George VI.
Marked: With the Doulton factory mark, Made in England, Royal Doulton, England, Beefeater, D6206, CORP 1946 and Doulton & Co. Limited.
Measures: 7 inches tall X 7 inches wide from the spout to the handle.
It is in excellent condition.
