Large Dresden Germany Porcelain Centrepiece, c. 1900, Decorated with Figures and Flowers – ‘Von Schierholz Porzellan Manufaktur Plaue’

A gorgeous large hand-painted Dresden Germany porcelain centrepiece with pierced, scalloped edging on the bowl, c. 1900. – Measuring 16 inches long.

The centrepiece has been wonderfully decorated with applied and painted flowers and leaves on the exterior of the bowl.  There is a figure of a woman on one end of the bowl and the figure of a man on the other end.

The interior of the centrepiece shows garlands of flowers with a large spray of flowers in the centre.

There is a gold trim around the base of the centrepiece with more applied flowers on the base below the bowl.

The underside of the centrepiece shows the maker’s mark in a blue stamp of a crown and shield with leaves as well as the impressed numbers “118’9” and the initials “C.C.”.  The company mark is for ‘Von Schierholz Porzellan Manufaktur Plaue’ circa 1900.

The centrepiece is 16 inches long from the man’s head to the woman’s head and measures 9 inches wide across the bowl. It stands approximately 12 inches tall from the base to the top of the man’s head.

Note: there are some condition issues. The end of the man’s left thumb is missing and there is a rough patch on the back of the woman’s shawl. There are also some ends of the applied flowers and leaves missing (a very common occurrence with applied flowers).

Despite this, the bowl and rest of the centrepiece is in very good condition and this piece would be a great addition to anyone’s home.
