Large English Silver-plated Gallery Tray on Copper – Johnson, Durban & Co. Birmingham circa 1890

Large rectangular Birmingham silver-plate gallery tray, English, circa 1890. The tray is silver-plate cast on a copper shell. Handsome strong engravings around the border and centre of the tray showing a “depth of design” where the floral and foliate images are on a stipple/lined background.  The 4 corners have larger diagonally oriented engravings that mirror each other while the tray is supported in each corner by round feet. The rim is an open raised design with very generous scroll handles. The centre is monogrammed within a beautifully engraved circular design.

Marks on the back :     J.D. & Co Ltd  (Johnson], Durban & Co Ltd – Birmingham, UK in business from 1878-1956).

A perfect gallery tray for a bar or buffet setting as a statement of style and elegance.
