Magnificent Italian Art Deco Alabaster Sculpture of a “Nude Seated on a Bench” by Famous Sculptor Emilio Fiaschi, Circa 1920
v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vMagnificent Italian alabaster sculpture of a “nude seated on a bench” by the famous Italian sculptor P. Emilio Fiaschi, Circa 1920.
P. Emilio Fiaschi (1858 – 1941) was one of a group of highly skilled marble sculptors working in Florence in the late 19th century. Fiaschi studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence between 1883 and 1885 and won a medal at an art competition in his hometown of Volterra in 1890.
As shown here, Fiaschi skillfully emphasizes the female form, especially the waist and hips, by accentuating the dramatic angles of the seated nude’s pose. The organic lines of the drapery over one shoulder curving around the figure, the soft white patina of her skin with exquisite details of her hands and feet, especially the Romanesque sandals are all set against the contrasting architectural alabaster bench with it’s slab construction and carved art deco motifs of leaf stems and a chiseled frieze.
Signed on the reverse at the base ” P. C. E. Fiaschi”, magnificently done with outstanding detail, a very fine example of his timeless work.
