Majestic In Scale European Walnut Gothic Revival Bookcase, Full Double Glass Doors, 4 Adjustable Shelves, 1870s
FurnitureThis 19th Century Gothic Revival bookcase is a stunning representation of the period, in excellent condition, with its very tailored architecture that draws attention to the luxurious walnut from which it was made. Gothic Revival furniture was a popular and distinct style in 1870s Europe, as part of a broader movement in the decorative arts that reached its height in the late 19th century. Culturally, the style was rooted in a sense of religious and social conservatism, with proponents believing in the moral and spiritual value of medieval art and architecture.
This bookcase design draws heavily on medieval Gothic architecture, in that the majority of the facade is devoted to the glazing of the full length double cabinet doors, which are lockable, allowing maximum viewing capability of your prized books or sentimental family memorabilia. Four original shelves are completely adjustable to create precisely the configuration you require. The interior floor is elevated on an architectural base bringing the capacity surfaces to five. The gorgeous walnut “arch” motif on the verticals and detailed wood trim references the “Gothic Revival Period” and in particular the wood trim in “Gothic motifs” overlaid on the top of the door glazing, creates a powerful aesthetic statement.
