Mid-19th Century Scottish Regimental Ram Horns Snuff Mull – 20 Inches Long – Stamped JN – circa 1850
GeneralThis is a unique piece, as we’ve never had one in the shop before—a Scottish regimental ram’s horn snuff mull. The silver-plated box sits in middle and attached to a full set of Ram’s head horns. The hinged lid is adorned with a horse lifts to show an empty space where snuff was place. Remnants of snuff and canister still in the box. This snuff mull would have been placed on a Scottish officer’s desk or used during a formal officers’ dinner, positioned at the centre of the table for communal use. Snuff, a finely ground and fermented tobacco, was traditionally sniffed for a quick nicotine boost.
Measures 20 inches long x 7 inches deep x 7 1/2 inches high.
Impressed initials JN into the bottom of one of the horns.
Scotland, circa 1850
