v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vGorgeous and ornate late Victorian sterling silver 4 piece tea set by George Maudsley Jackson & David Landsborough Fullerton, stamped and dated circa 1899. The elaborate purple velvet and red satin fitted box is labelled Fattorini & Sons, Goldsmiths Bradford.
The silversmiths George M. Jackson and David L. Fullerton went into a new partnership in 1897. The dealers Fattorini & Sons was founded by Antonio Fattorini (1797 – 1860), an Italian, who in 1829 was initially listed in Leeds as a jeweller and hardware dealer but later in 1850 moved to Bradford, taking a large building at 28 Kirkgate trading under the style “Fattorini & Sons”.
This lovely 4 piece set includes tongs and a teapot, creamer and open sugar. The wide cylindrical forms, are ornately chased and embossed with friezes of flowers, foliage and C-scrolls to a textured ground. The cream and sugar have “pinched” and scrolled rims with gold wash interiors. The teapot has a hinged and domed cover, with an ebonised knop finial and handle.
A rare example of some of the finest quality silversmith work of the period.
