A French Art Nouveau gilt bronze sculpture of a classical dancer draped in a cascading veil is available for your collection. Designed and executed in Paris around the turn of the twentieth century, this period statue perfectly encapsulates the organic fluidity, sinuous lines, and romantic symbolism of the French Art Nouveau movement. The figure captures a sense of theatrical motion and poetic elegance, standing as a textbook example of the high-quality decorative statuary produced during the height of the artist’s career.
The elegant female figure is depicted mid-movement, her body gracefully contoured as she raises her right arm to support a large, flowing veil that wraps around her head and falls down her back into the swirling folds of her floor-length gown. The cast bronze preserves its gilded finish, displaying a rich combination of softly worn golden tones and naturally aged undertones that emphasize the deep valleys of the drapery and the fine anatomy. The entire figure stands integrated directly atop its cast bronze rectangular plinth base.
This period sculpture is preserved in excellent condition, where the face, hands, and drapery folds remain crisp, retaining the definitive casting hallmarks of a Belle Époque foundry piece produced during Levasseur’s lifetime. Signed by the artist , this artwork brings an immediate historical presence, sophisticated antique charm, and monumental visual appeal to any high-end collection of 19th-century bronze statuary.
