Spectacular French Art Nouveau Vase Signed Daum Nancy, Acid-Cut Cameo Glass with Chrysanthemum Motifs , Height 10.5″ , Circa 1898-1905

An elegant French Art Nouveau vase by Daum of Nancy, signed to the base in script with the Cross of Lorraine.

Blown in softly opalescent glass with subtle celadon undertones, the refined baluster form is decorated with acid-cut chrysanthemums and foliage carved in delicate relief. A stylized Art Nouveau frieze encircles the shoulder, harmonizing with the organic botanical motif. Executed using Daum’s multi-layer cameo technique, the design was achieved through successive acid baths, dissolving outer layers of glass to create depth and atmospheric softness. The surface retains its original satin soft glow finish, enhancing the sculptural and atmospheric quality of the carving.

Founded in 1878, Daum of Nancy became one of the leading glasshouses of the French Art Nouveau movement. Working within the artistic circle known as the École de Nancy, the firm championed the unity of fine art and craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from natural forms. By the late 1890s, Daum had perfected acid-cut cameo glass and gained international recognition for its refined carving, nuanced coloration, and sculptural restraint. The script signature with the Cross of Lorraine confirms production during this celebrated turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau period. A refined and collectible example of early French Art Nouveau, this tall Daum Nancy cameo glass vase is in excellent condition .
