Hand painted colourful and contrasting gorgeous aquadic floral and bird motifs on a black ground. The lids are similarly decorated and each is topped with a glorious gold “Foo Dog” finial. In Chinese mythology, the “Foo Dogs” were considered powerful guardians, serving as protectors of sacred places such as temples, palaces, and tombs. They were often placed in pairs, with one representing the male (yang) and the other the female (yin) energy, symbolizing balance and harmony.
A most unusual, luxurious and large pair of Chinese urns with raised circular black lacquer wood bases worthy of any modern or traditional decor setting.
