Art Glass / CrystalThe iconic “Splendid” collection is the most luxurious drinking collection in Moser’s history. The pattern was introduced in 1911 by Leo Moser. Ten tall red wine / water goblets are available to be **sold separately** and have an elegant shape, perfectly precise cut and a wide decorative rim stripe of beautiful 24k gold gilding and lovely etched designs all around each glass. Below the gilding, the bowl is a fine cross-hatched pattern, divided by olive shaped lenses in the middle. The bottom of the bowl is cut with vertical wedge cuts that transition into the hexagonal stem. In excellent condition with the etched Moser trademark clearly visible on the bases of all the glasses.
Moser glass originated in Czechoslovakia and Bohemia and has been collected since the early 19th century by monarchs, statesmen and the most discerning cut-crystal connoisseurs all around the world. Early patrons include the first Czechoslovak president Tomáš G. Masaryk and first Czech president Václav Havel. “Splendid” has graced the tables of the Spanish Kings Alfonso XIII (1886-1941) and Juan Carlos I (1938-), King Harald V of Norway (1937-), the royal families of Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Pope Benedict XVI (1927-). In 1947, the Czechoslovak president Edvard Beneš gave Moser crystal to Britain’s queen-to-be, Elizabeth II, as a wedding present. The set was supplemented 60 years later on the Queen’s diamond wedding anniversary.
