Timeless Sculptural Art Glass French Lalique ‘Esna’ Vase, Large & Heavy Crystal Flower Design, 1985

Large and heavy crystal vase created by the famous Lalique glassworks. René Lalique (1860–1945) was more than a glassmaker — he was one of the greatest designers of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. He began as a jeweller, working with Paris’ elite (Cartier, Boucheron), then revolutionized glass design by blending fine art with functional forms. His motto was essentially “make glass speak like sculpture” — which still defines Lalique’s aesthetic.

The vase is signed “Lalique / France” on the base. Named the “Esna” vase, reportedly created by Marie‑Claude Lalique (granddaughter of René Lalique) around 1984–85, and inspired by a motif from the site of Esna (Egypt) — hence the name. The vase commemorates the 125th anniversary of Rène Lalique’s birth. It has transparent parts alternated with stylized, satiny feathers that give the vase the shape of an open flower. In excellent condition.

A fine example of the Lalique motto,  truly a “sculptural piece of art glass”.
