Tremendous French Art Nouveau “Mont Joye” Cameo Glass Vase, Gilded Chartreuse Green, Stunning Height 20.25″, Circa 1890-1900

,
This is an exceptional ornamental “large scale” example of early French Mont Joye art glass, in gilded chartreuse green, circa 1890-1900, from the “Art Nouveau Period”.  Art Nouveau, a decorative art movement, thrived primarily between 1890-1910 embracing organic forms, flowing lines, and intricate ornamentation. This “New Art” style is characterized by its use of sinuous lines inspired by nature, particularly botanical forms creating a sense of fluidity and movement.

The decorative details from “nature” on this magnificent vase include firstly a gorgeous “field of green” thrown into relief by a textured acid etched pattern of ” aquatic scales”. The darker green floral/leaf images in lyrical, sinus lines are highlighted with elaborate hand painted gold accents as is the rim of the vase. This combined technique of
“parcel gilt and acid-etched cameo glass ” is used to create the base design, and then a gold or gilded layer is applied to specific areas.
Truly a hallmark of Art Nouveau, a movement dedicated to the integration of art into all aspects of daily life. A fine example of early Mont Joye art glass that serves as a focal point to any room or a stand alone sculptural statement piece in excellent condition.
Dimensions: height 20.25″ x max diameter of base 9.5′
