Unusual English Regency Period, Mahogany “Country House” Sewing Box with a Silk Lining, Circa 1820

A striking English Regency-period “ladies’ work” sewing box, circa 1820, crafted in richly figured mahogany with an elegant cage-form construction. The warm russet tones of the finely grained mahogany are beautifully offset by a soft mint-green silk lining, visible through the vertical slats and lending the piece a refined, decorative presence.

The domed, hinged lid opens smoothly to reveal a deep interior compartment, generously sized for wool, twine, and sewing or embroidery materials. The silk interior is neatly finished with coordinating brocade trim, highlighting the quality and care of its original construction.

A particularly attractive and well-proportioned example, combining refined Regency taste with solid craftsmanship. In very good condition, with appealing colour, crisp form, and strong joints throughout—both practical and decorative, and ideal for display in a traditional or country house interior.
