FurnitureVery fine 19th century English, Sheraton style buffet/sideboard in mahogany with a large rectangular bow front top having a satinwood cross banded edge. The central satinwood inlaid drawer is flanked on either side by generous storage cupboards, with repeating satinwood inlay motifs. Each storage cabinet has two shelves.The center front shape is of serpentine form with a graceful curve and highlighted satinwood inlay to each corner.
Very detailed satinwood inlay decoration on the front drawer/doors that includes curvilinear organic patterns of wreaths and bows. Satinwood linear “string” inlay links the main body to include the long tapering legs with spade feet. All with brass handles and fittings including three locks and a key.
An unusually elegant mahogany buffet with marvellous satinwood inlay and at the same time one of the most functional and practical pieces of furniture, as fit for their original purpose today as they were in the century that they were made.
