Very Fine Hand Painted Porcelain Portrait of a “Gentleman” with Lovely Gilt Wood Frame, Circa 1900

,

A fine 19th century porcelain portrait of an elderly gentleman wearing a double-breasted frock coat with a white shirt and dark blue cravat. The plaque is signed on the front right but the signature is somewhat obscured by the lower edge of the frame. Clearly this hand painted porcelain portrait was done by a very accomplished artist. The details are exquisite, particularly around the face, and he carries an air of an upstanding gentleman.

The porcelain portrait is housed behind glass and is in excellent condition. The 19th century oval purple velvet matt is most likely original. The rectangular high relief guilt wood frame surround may not be original but has lovely high relief plaster guilt corner foliage/berry motif applications.  The frame and matt are in very good condition
