Signed by the artist to lower left. Willem Hendriks Jr., son of an established Dutch artist Willem Hendriks Sr., was born in the Netherlands outside of Brussels. He lived primarily in Holland, between La Haye and Voorburg, though he traveled to and spent significant time in the United States and Canada where his paintings were very popular.
This canvas provides not only a Dutch pastoral landscape example but an emotionally captivating view of a river landscape in the spring with gorgeous light and tree blossoms. Willem Hendriks must have loved this theme as many of his works depict different parts of a “river landscape”. The handsome frame adds to the historical time period of the work.
