Large “Blue Onion” Serving Bowl Circa 1900, Ernst Teichert Factory, Cölln Meissen Germany

A rare find, this is an original “Blue Onion” pattern by the Ernst Teichert Factory in Cölln near Meissen Germany.  Although Teichert was located in the city of Meissen this is not the same Meissen porcelain factory that used the blue crossed swords mark.

Ernst Teichert was a brother of Carl Teichert. Ernst worked for Carl as a plant leader in his factory. He became independent in 1869 establishing a stove tile factory in Cölln near Meissen. In 1884 Ernst founded a porcelain factory in Cölln. He died just two years later. The factory was overtaken by his son, Christian Teichert who expanded the factory business model over the next three decades and in 1930 formed the Teichertwerke Meissen group.

This piece likely dates to the earlier 1900s and has a thick blue arrow mark on the back and impressed with “Cölln Meissen 2”. There were a number of companies who produced the very popular Blue Onion pattern so this can easily be used with any Meissen service of the same pattern. The condition is excellent.
