The Green family started manufacturing pottery there as early as 1833, with the Crown Staffordshire name formally adopted in 1889. The company produced a wide range of high-quality bone china tableware and was particularly noted for its hand-painted designs and porcelain floral ornaments. In the post-war years (mid-20th century), the company expanded significantly and became the largest manufacturer of bone china in the Staffordshire Potteries area of England.
