18th Century Louis XVI Period Marble, Bronze Figures & Gilt Bronze Silk Suspension Mantel Clock
GeneralAn period 19th century Louis XVI marble mantel clock with two bronze figural crouching ladies on each side blowing gilt bronze horns. The figures are in a black panta contrasting nicely with the white marble and gilt bronze. The centre marble pillar holds a circular clock face in white enamel and black Roman numerals. The front of the clock is decorated in fire gilt bronze decorations with the bottom panels of ‘cherubs playing amongst the clouds’ figures in relief.
The movement is a silk suspension – the pendulum hangs from the outside back of the clock – allowing easy access to add or remove the pendulum. The clock works are marked by the maker “ROSSCART A.”. The clock strikes on the hour and half hour.
The whole clock sits upon 4 bronze circular feet. It is extremely heavy for it’s size.
