American Renowned Lenox Corporation Set of Eight Dinner Plates, Lavish Gilt “Jeweling” on Maroon Borders, Circa 1906-1930

The Lenox Corporation is a renowned American company that has specialized in high-quality dinnerware, collectibles, and giftware since the late 19th century. Scott Lenox founded the company in 1889 in Trenton, New Jersey, with a vision to create “the perfection of American porcelain”. Lenox quickly established a high standard for fine porcelain in the United States, so much so that it became the first American china to be used in the White House. President Woodrow Wilson and his wife commissioned a state service in 1918. The company’s products are in the permanent collections of prestigious cultural institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The firm is known for its durability, design, and use of 24-karat gold accents.
Crafted from fine porcelain, the pattern features a lavish rich, intricate maroon border “cornucopia” of hand-applied gilt dots (also referred to as “jewelling”) that create a raised, tactile effect, and set against a creamy ivory background. The rim of each piece is richly accented with hand-applied 24-karat gold. The eight dinner plate set has reverse green stamps “Lenox Marshall Field & Company Chicago”. Lenox produced many exclusive patterns for high-end retailers like Marshall Field & Company, and these were often identified by internal factory numbers rather than formal pattern names. Generally this set of 8 is in excellent condition and dates between 1906-1930.
