British Oil Painting on Canvas – William Shayer (1811-1891) – 28″ x 36″ (Frederich Thom Gallery)

A large oil on canvas by well known British artist William Shayer (jr.) (1811-1892).    The scene is a typical seaside scene with boats in the water and several people and animals (donkey, horse and dog) on the shore. The sky is a cloudy backdrop to the whole scene.

Framed in a carved gilt wood frame.

The back shows the age (over 150 years old stretcher) and a gallery label where it was sold – Frederick Thom Gallery – a prominent art gallery in Toronto.

Signed W. Shayer – middle bottom (near dog).

William Joseph Shayer (1811-1892) was an English artist and the eldest son of William Shayer (1787-1879), a noted landscape and figure painter from Hampshire.
