Antiquarian Map of London England in 1666 by William Maitland published circa 1756
v** SOLD ARCHIVES **vThis is an exceptional framed map of London England that bears the title –
“A PLAN of the CITY and LIBERTIES of LONDON after the Dreadful Conflagration in the Year 1666. The Blank Partwhereof represents the Ruins and the Extent of the Fire ;& the Perfpective that left standing.”
This rare map is framed under glass in a simple, thin black frame accented with two different bands painted gold. The map itself is a highly detailed street plan of the City of London after the “Great Fire” in 1666. The legends, both alphabetical and numerical, denote many important locations including churches. I believe it to be copper engraved.
Map Measures: 13 1/2 inches wide x 9 1/4 inches high.
Frame Measures: 19 3/8 inches wide x 15 inches high.
