Grand Period or High Victorian 14K Gold Etruscan Revival Convertible Ribbon Slide Brooch Pendant, Circa 1870

This magnificent circular medallion encapsulates the historical styling of the late nineteenth-century Etruscan Revival movement. High Victorian, also know as the Grand Period refers to Queen Victoria’s distinct middle phase from 1861-1885.  The domed face of the centerpiece is intricately adorned with dense, concentric tiers of tight, hand-wrought rope-twist wirework that spiral elegantly toward the focal point. Resting precisely at the center is a beautifully detailed, raised openwork filigree dome accent, adding rich physical dimension, texture, and elegant shadow play to the impressive form.

The reverse showcases a solid, flat-back design preserving its original nineteenth-century structure. The backplate is stamped solely with a 14K hallmark indicating its solid fourteen-karat yellow gold purity, unsigned by a manufacturer, which is standard for regional master jewelers of the era. It features its original horizontal pin stem assembly alongside two pairs of built-in slide bars for ribbon or chain suspension. This dual-purpose convertible engineering allows the massive piece to be worn traditionally as a statement brooch or seamlessly threaded onto a thick velvet ribbon or heavy chain necklace as a structural slide pendant.
