Impressive German .800 Silver Highly Decorated Repoussé Box, Oval with Scalloped Edge & Hinged Lid, Circa 1880
Silver HollowareAn impressive German . 800 silver oval hinged repoussé decorated box, circa 1880. The box has a scalloped edge and is beautifully decorated with a “familial scene” depicting a romantic tale of a shepherd courting a lady with family members and sheep in the background.
Embellished on both the lid and sides with elegant, ornate and detailed repoussé designs. The lid is further decorated with a rose pattern border. The sides of the box show a repeating chased floral and scroll border surrounding shaped cartouches. Florals, leaves, shells border cartouches of vases and hearts around the entire scalloped perimeter of the box. Substantial in size, in excellent condition and with a gold wash or “guilded” interior .
Marked on the bottom with German “crescent moon” and “.800″ for the content of silver (80%). A unique gift, or art object for holding fine objects.
