Italian Murano Sophisticated Barovier & Toso Bullicante Green Tint & Gold Glass PAIR of Lamps, Mid Century Circa 1950

,
Barovier & Toso is a renowned Italian glass manufacturer based in Murano Italy. This gorgeous pair of mid century 1950s Barovier & Toso murano glass lamps features a Murano fluted shape and circular gilded metal base.  Utilizing the “bullicante” technique, Murano glass artisans trap air bubbles in a symmetrical grid by layering molten glass over a spiked mold. The ribbed shape is hand-tooled while the glass is still malleable, showcasing the mastery of Murano glass blowing.
The elegant green tint comes from adding metal oxides to the molten batch. The shimmering glow is created via “Cordonato d’Oro”, where 24k gold leaf is incorporated into the glass. As the glass expands, the gold shatters into millions of microscopic flecks that catch and refract light from within.
Larger scale Murano lamps like these are highly sought after by interior designers, as their “statement” size of 28 inches significantly increases their desirability.
