Created by renowned London silversmith George Baskerville in 1796, the piece exhibits refined elegance and timeless style.The oval lobed body of the teapot is beautifully formed, with an elongated spout and a hinged lid topped with an ivory finial. Its handle, gracefully carved in a gentle “C” curve from ivory, adds both comfort and sophistication.The accompanying sterling silver trivet mirrors the teapot’s engraved decoration, supported by four finely turned feet, making it both a functional and aesthetic complement. A true collector’s piece, this teapot and trivet set embodies the artistry of the George III period and the superior craftsmanship of Baskerville’s workshop.
The teapot is hallmarked on the underside with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head crowned for the city of London, the date letter “A” for 1796, the duty mark of King George III’s head, and the maker’s mark for George Baskerville . One side of the teapot has an empty cartouche. The other side has an engraved monogram that is also on the trivat. Minimalist hand engraved decoration on both the tray and the teapot are beautiful, with nice bands around the top and bottom and lid of the pot, and around the edge and center of the tray.
