Luxurious, Intriguingly Rare Pair of Sauce Tureens & Lids, Early 19th Century Worcester Regency Period Hand Painted Porcelain in Imari Style with Gold Gilt Lions, Circa 1810

Gorgeous and intriguingly rare pair of sauce tureens, are an early 19th century example of the Worcester Regency period. Hand painted porcelain decorated in Imari style with stunning gold gilt “lion” sculptural forms that function as lid cover “lifters” and “lion head” handles. The sophisticated colour and pattern is one of the “Japan” patterns that came out around that time.

Highly decorative hand painting of enchanting floral scenes. Lids and tureens are trimmed in gold gilt that frame the beautiful rich cobalt blue “flowing leaves”. Gorgeous bouquets of “stylized flowers” in iron red, cadmium yellow/green with hints of pink and turquoise, all with gold gilt linear details. The pair of tureens are in very good condition for their age and use, showing some scattered wear to the gold gilt.

A fascinating pair of decorative yet functional pieces that are uniquely hand-painted and are rare unmarked Worcester except for the small blue likely “makers marks” on both.  Visually the gold gilt lions convey a message “meant for kings” and are a luxurious example of design, where “form meets function”.
