Rare Royal Worcester Hand-Painted Rabbit Vase Lamp by Charles Henry Clifford Baldwyn, dated 1905

A fine Royal Worcester porcelain vase, shape 2336, dated 1905, hand painted and signed by noted Royal Worcester artist Charles Henry Clifford Baldwyn.

Originally produced as a vase and cover, the piece is now lacking its cover and was later converted into a table lamp. The elegant amphora-form body is flanked by classical handles and decorated with gilt and blush-toned detailing.

The principal side is beautifully hand painted with a woodland scene depicting three rabbits among flowers, grasses and foliage, while the reverse is decorated with a quieter rabbit composition against the ivory porcelain ground. The naturalistic painting is signed C. H. C. Baldwyn.

The underside bears the Royal Worcester factory mark for 1905 and shape number 2336.

There is an old break at the pedestal where the vase body joins the base, with visible restoration and minor associated losses. The vase has also been drilled through the base as part of its lamp conversion, and the original cover is no longer present.

Despite these condition issues, the piece remains a particularly attractive example of Baldwyn’s animal painting and a highly decorative Royal Worcester lamp.
