Scottish Pair of Oil Paintings on Canvas – Pastoral Scenes – Painter R.Russell MacNee (1880-1952)

Robert Russell MacNee (1880-1952) was a landscape and genre artist born in Milngavie, Scotland. He studied at Glasgow School of Art and is best known for his sunny farmyard and cottage scenes. The presence of chickens in particular identifies a lot of his paintings. His style is impressionistic and he is able to create a quality of light through a subtle palette and light brushwork that imbues his paintings an idyllic charm. MacNee is Royal Academy exhibited and he also exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, the Royal Scottish Academy and in Paris.

This pair of oil paintings exemplifies his impressionistic style and subject matter of idyllic pastoral scenes. Both are signed and indistinctly dated. The matching frames are generous and add a reference to the time period in which he worked.

The oil paintings are under glass – therefore preserving their colour.
