Set of Six Hand-Painted “M. Impᵉ de Sèvres” Portrait Plaques – French, Late 19th Century

A fine and complete set of six hand-painted porcelain portrait plaques, each exquisitely depicting members of the French Imperial court in richly detailed Empire-era dress. The portraits are beautifully executed on circular porcelain plaques with green and gilt enamel borders, each delicately signed and finished with exceptional detail and colour.

The reverse of each plaque bears the red overglaze mark “M. Impᵉ de Sèvres”, the abbreviation for Manufacture Impériale de Sèvres — the celebrated French porcelain manufactory near Paris. While originally used during the early Napoleonic period (beginning in 1804), this red mark was re-introduced in the late 19th century for finely painted Sèvres-style portrait miniatures made for the decorative market.

These plaques are excellent examples of the Empire Revival style popular in France circa 1880–1910, drawing inspiration from portraits of Napoleon, Empress Joséphine, and their court.

A complete and beautifully preserved set — ideal for framing or as a refined decorative display.

France, circa 1880–1910
