Sophisticated & Luxurious German Rosenthal Ivory Bavaria Service/Charger Plates, Pattern # 5640, Set of 12 Plates, 11 Inches, Circa 1910-1930

This exquisite set of 12 vintage Rosenthal Ivory Bavaria service plates, also known as chargers, showcases the pinnacle of early 20th-century German porcelain artistry. Each plate features a generous 11-inch diameter, designed to serve as an elegant base for formal multi-course dining. The classic Art Nouveau aesthetic is defined by a creamy ivory ground, a sophisticated deep blue border, and a center floral bouquet containing a vibrant mix of pink, purple, and yellow blossoms. The rim is further accented by five floral cartouches and intricate raised gold leaf filigree, creating a look of timeless luxury. The footrim (the circular base the plate rests on) is typically left as unglazed white porcelain. In this set of high-luxury “Service Plates” from the early 20th century, Rosenthal added a gold gilt footrim.  This extra detail was an added manufacturing step and expense, signaling that these charger plates were intended for the most formal tablescapes.
The pieces are officially identified as pattern number 5640, a specific factory designation for this ornate combination of floral sprays and gilded trim. Collectors often associate this visual style with the broader Rosenthal pattern category #2101 or the Aida blank. The underside of each plate bears the authentic green “Rosenthal Ivory Bavaria” crown backstamp, which dates the production of this set to approximately 1910 through the late 1930s. Hand-painted factory markings, including the pattern code and decorator numbers, confirm their provenance and the artisanal nature of their creation at the renowned Selb factory in Germany.
