Spectacular Chinese Export Silver Dragon Cigar Box, High Relief & Hand Hammered, Circa 1900

This exceptional Chinese Export Silver (CES) cigar box, in excellent condition, has a rectangular form cast from solid silver with a hand hammered exterior across the whole body. The upper plateau of the lid is ornamented with a large coiled dragon, accented with impressive three dimensional whiskers that emanate above the hammered surface. Two matching dragons in undulating high relief, float around the entire perimeter of the box. The interior of the box is fitted with a raised silver edge and fully lined with cedar wood.

The hallmarks struck to the underside of this remarkable box include a chopmark meaning “pure” & the word “silver”. This luxurious CES dragon box is such a fine example from circa 1900 and is becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
