Timeless “English Country” Minton “Ancestral” Pattern, China Dinner Set for 8, 1951-1991
China Patterns“Ancestral” has become Minton’s classic signature pattern in fine bone china. Pattern features a classic design with a scalloped, swirl edge, hand-painted raised blue and red (or rust) enamel flowers with brown leaves, on a fine white bone china base, and finished with gold trim. It is widely considered one of Minton’s most classic and enduring designs. The “Ancestral” pattern was produced for over 40 years. Pieces can be dated by their backstamps. As seen on this set the “Wreath” backstamp dates from after 1951 up until 1991.
Minton china was acquired by Royal Doulton in 1968, but the “Ancestral” pattern continued to be produced under the Minton name until its discontinuation. “Ancestral” became one of Minton’s signature and most popular patterns, cherished by collectors for its regal and romantic, English country aesthetic.
